A full night’s sleep is as essential as diet and exercise. Unfortunately, patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) rarely get the healthy sleep needed for the body to rest, repair, and restore itself. At Rigby Dental, we are excited to offer sleep apnea treatment to patients in West Jordan, Sandy, Utah, and beyond. If you suspect sleep apnea, visit our dentist today and enjoy a healthy and uninterrupted night’s sleep.
OSA is a severe sleep disorder characterized by stop-and-start breathing cycles when sleeping. OSA occurs when the airway becomes partly or fully blocked during sleep, interfering with airflow through the nose or mouth. When your brain senses a drop in oxygen, it briefly wakes your body just enough to restart breathing. These interruptions are so short you may not notice them, but they disrupt your ability to reach deep, restorative sleep.
Here are the common symptoms of OSA.
Sleep apnea can take a toll on your daily life, affecting your sleep, mood, and focus. Worse yet, lack of quality sleep puts your brain, lungs, and heart on overdrive, heightening the risk of several systemic conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, dementia, depression, and stroke. Sleep apnea is no laughing matter. We take it seriously and offer effective treatment to help restore your sleep and health.
One common treatment for sleep apnea is a CPAP machine, which delivers a constant stream of pressurized air into the upper airway via a mask. However, many patients struggle to continue using CPAP due to discomfort or noise. If CPAP isn’t right for you, there are still other effective treatment options available.
Your West Jordan dentist offers custom oral appliances as simple yet effective solutions for sleep apnea treatment. Worn like a mouthguard, a sleep apnea oral appliance prevents your tongue from collapsing, keeping your airway open during sleep. Many patients love oral appliances because they are discreet, portable, comfortable, and easy to use.
